Gardens by the Bay is a park spanning 250 acres of reclaimed land in central Singapore, adjacent to the Marina Reservoir. The park consists of three waterfront gardens: Bay South Garden, Bay East Garden and Bay Central Garden.
Gardens by the Bay is an integral part of a strategy by the Singapore government to transform Singapore from a "Garden City" to a "City in a Garden". The stated aim is to raise the quality of life by enhancing greenery and flora in the city.
An international competition for the design of the master plan, held in January 2006, attracted more than 70 entries submitted by 170 firms from 24 countries.
Supertrees are 16-storey-tall vertical gardens collect rainwater, generate solar power and act as venting ducts for the park’s conservatories. A suspended 128-meter-long walkway between two Supertrees, the OCBC Skyway offers a bird’s eye view of the Gardens and the Marina Bay area. There are pavilions, lush lawns, tropical palm trees and natural blossoms along its two-kilometre waterfront promenade.
A cooled conservatory complex, which won the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival 2012. There, you can study plant species from around the world such as baobabs and date palms.
After the sun sets, the sky show of dazzling lights and sounds in the OCBC Garden Rhapsody, takes place nightly amidst the Supertrees.
