A bump in the road...

I have not taken many pictures of the service apartment that we are staying in so I decided to do that this morning while I do laundry and Jackson naps. Jackson woke up during the middle of the night with 103F fever.
I bought a thermometer but it only reads in Celsius -- so everytime I take the temperature I have to use my converter on my phone to see what his temp is. Their measurements-- meters, km, kg, and C is some of the things I'm getting used to!

In the lobby and other areas of our apartment their are these Dress Code signs.
It's hard to read here, but is says to make this place an enjoyable place for all no pjs, swimwear are allowed in the lobby so in order to avoid embarrassment residents should be "respectfully" attired.

The elevator we take multiple times a day.

Our floor.

View from our floor down.
They have open spots everywhere where you "can" look down.  Yes, that is 14 floors up.

Now comes the exciting part of our day.
When Jackson woke up from his nap his temperature was still at 103 and he was drenched!
He couldn't even lift himself off his bed.
We got information about a general practitioner in the building across from us-- which ended up not being there, but thankfully the concierge downstairs printed us off some directions of how to get to another clinic.
I had been trying to keep his fever down with Motrin, but it just wasn't working.
We got to the clinic and the dr. saw us immediately-- she couldn't really see in his ears and she didn't have anything should could do to get his fever down either so she sent us to the emergency room.
Thankfully the A&E (Accident & Emergency) as they call it here was only a 5 minute walk. Of course as I'm learning my way around anything they tell me 5 minutes usually takes us at least 10 minutes.
Point being it was in walking distance.

Door to the Accident & Emergency door- I did not think this was a door at first I walked to it and look around and then all of a sudden it slid open. Very modern. All their doors were like this.
The clinic doctor had called and told them we were coming.
J fever had gotten even higher 104.
Jd got there right about that time and the Dr. saw us.
What a VERY nice man. He did a full work up on Jackson. .Ears were perfect-- I really thought this was going to be the cause. He even let JD look in his ears so he could see what perfect ear drums looked like. He couldn't really see anything else except a slightly red throat. We gave him Panadol (their version of Tylenol) suppository and it was effective within 10 minutes. J was not a fan of anything or anyone in that place-- I wouldn't either though. We did a flu swab and  it came back negative. After no signs of anything else we both felt that we needed to do some blood work.

J after getting his medicine and flu swab.

Poor baby just felt so puny!

I did not take a pic after blood work-- that was hard for me to watch. Only one of us was allowed to the back so I held him while 2 other nurses drew his blood. They were so sweet and gave him a sucker when he was done. Which made up for everything for him.

They said it would take about 2-4 hours to get blood work back. So we asked to go home and wait for the results. They gave us permission along with some medications if we needed them.
Here they don't have pharmacies where you have to go get your medication after the Dr. prescribes they do it within the facility. I LOVED that! One stop! The hospital was SO efficient and all of the staff was sweet, caring, and receptive to our needs. It was definitely on that side of it not a bad experience. There was no hospital smell either-- it was very clean.

We headed home after that.

Jackson after his suppository perked up ALOT!
He even wanted to have a snack.
We were pushing fluids big time as well!
First smile we had seen a while!

Also freshly bathed-- he had sweated so bad the whole day he really needed it.

Logan was so patient with us we decided to take him down to swim for a little bit.
Jackson joined us for just a little while then headed up for a nap.

Logan LOVES the pool!!
We had it all to ourselves as well!

Rest of our building.

Around 4 we got the blood test results back and his white blood cell count was scary high so they told us to come in immediately and they would start IV antibiotics, do a urine sample, and chest xray. Talk about a wake up call for this Momma.
We woke J up from his nap and hurried like crazy across town to the Pediatricians office they got us an appointment with.

Not that I wanted to remember this moment and J really didn't want to remember it, but I took it anyways.
The Pedi looked Jackson over and thankfully none of the tests mentioned to us were done. She diagnosed him with a bacterial infection with tonsillitis (he had puss pockets on his tonsils) & retracted ear drum. There was talk that he may have another virus going on as well. She really felt that he would improve in the next 3-7 days and we just needed to push fluids, get rest, and control his fever.

I am praising the Lord that it was not worse than that because a lot of worse things were mentioned that it could be and I'm thankful it was none of those.

When thinking about exploring a new city, usually think about seeing the malls, trains, historical sites... a hospital tour is not usually on my list of things to visit when I go somewhere. I am also thankful that the experience was SO good. Everyone was so efficient-there was no wait, not a time where I felt there wasn't someone there to ask questions or check on us.

Please pray for protection for the rest of us and rest and health for Jackson as he recovers!

  3. The standard of health care and the medical facilities in Singapore are very high. Clinics can be found everywhere and you get to see the doctor within 30 minutes most of the time, unless there are many patients.

You are in a very safe and efficient country, my friends! :)
